A Chairman who is normally an eminent
industrialist from the region, heads that Board. Presently, Prof. Dr. B.B.
Ahuja is the Chairman of the Board of Apprenticeship Training,
Western Region, Mumbai . The Board has eminent personalities in the field of
education, industry, and Government departments as the members of the Board. The
Board advises and decides policy matters whereas for day to day matters
the Director of Training is responsible and is guided by the Additional
Apprenticeship Adviser, Min. of HRD, New Delhi. The Board Secretariat has a
total staff of 32 including 5 Technical Officers. The Board looks after the work
of implementation of the Apprenticeship Act in respect of
Graduate / Technician / Technician (Vocational) apprentices in the establishments
located in Western Region comprising the states of Maharashtra, Madhya
Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Gujarat, Goa & Union territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra
Nagar Haveli. The total number of establishments covered by this Board
is around 2800 and the total apprentices trained in the year 2004-05 as on
21-02-2006 in all the categories are 13327. Govt. of India shares 50% of
the stipend amount at prescribed rate and on an average the amount spent on
stipend per year is around Rs. 7 crores. In addition to implementation of the
provisions of the Apprentices Act. The Board also arranges Supervisory
Development Programmes for benefit of the apprentices and Career Guidance
Programmes for final year students of engineering colleges, polytechnics and
Vocational courses at 10+2 level. The Board also organises seminars and meetings
of the representatives of the industries and the heads of the technical
institutions in order to promote common cause of efficient implementation of
the Act.

Recently the Board has initiated programs like
'Centralised Apprenticeship Engagement Camps (Bharti Mela)'
for extending the opportunities to maximum possible aspirants, and
'Special Camps' for providing services of the BOAT (WR) at the
doorstep of industries, wherein verification and collection of Contract
Registration Cards and Claims for reimbursement of stipend are collected from
the establishments. |
